Affordable SEO services that actually drive results.

"Affordable SEO" is one of the most abused phrases in digital marketing. It usually means one of two things: dirt-cheap packages from offshore teams that will eventually tank your site, or vague "monthly retainers" that produce reports instead of revenue. We've watched business owners burn six figures on both.

At Bonsai Marketing we define affordable SEO differently. Affordable means the work pays for itself in tracked leads, calls, or revenue within a reasonable timeframe — usually 3 to 6 months. Anything less isn't affordable. It's just cheap.

What real SEO actually costs

Serious local SEO for a service business runs $1,500–$5,000 per month depending on competition and geography. A plumber in Santa Rosa pays less than a personal injury attorney in San Francisco because the competitive landscape is different.

If someone quotes you $299/month, they're either automating the work with low-value tools or cutting corners you'll pay for later. If someone quotes you $12,000/month, they're probably fine — but make sure you're getting strategic depth, not just a bigger team shuffling reports.

The four signs of affordable SEO that actually works

1. It's tied to real business outcomes

Every month you should see tracked leads, form submissions, phone calls, or bookings — not just "traffic up 18%." If your SEO partner can't tell you how many qualified leads they drove last month, they're not running SEO. They're running a content factory.

2. There's no 12-month lock-in

Month-to-month after a short 90-day ramp. If the work is valuable, you'll renew. If it isn't, you should be able to walk. Long contracts exist to protect the agency, not the client.

3. You can see the work

Live dashboards showing ranking changes, a visible content calendar, monthly call recordings, access to the Google Business Profile dashboard. If you can't see it, it probably isn't happening.

4. The strategy is specific to your business

A plumbing SEO plan should look different from a dental SEO plan, which should look different from a law firm SEO plan. Templated strategies are how "affordable" becomes "ineffective."

What we charge (and why)

Bonsai engagements start at $1,800/month for local service businesses. That includes Google Business Profile management, on-page SEO, technical audits, content, review generation, and monthly strategy calls with Bryan. No offshore handoffs, no account reps, no fake dashboards.

If that's out of range for your business right now, we'll tell you honestly on the discovery call and recommend the two or three free things you should focus on first. Sometimes the most affordable SEO is the work you do yourself with good guidance.

The most expensive SEO is SEO that doesn't work. The most affordable SEO is work that pays for itself inside six months.

Before you hire anyone: run a free audit

Before you pay any agency anything, run a free audit of your current visibility. You'll see exactly what's broken, what's working, and which fixes actually move revenue. If you decide to hire us after, great. If not, you still walk away with a prioritized list of things to fix.
