Drywall Contractor · Full-Site Design Evolution · Sebastopol, California · Sonoma, Napa, Marin, San Francisco

Patches In A Day.
From studs to stunning, without losing a single ranking signal.

Patches In A Day has repaired drywall in Sonoma County since 1998 and holds a 4.9 rating across 450 Google reviews. The site did not say that. We rebuilt every page in a cinematic design system, added eight dedicated service pages, and kept every URL, redirect, metadata tag and sentence of ranking copy intact — in days, directed by 27 years of search experience and executed by AI agents.

The build,
in Bryan's words.

Bryan Fikes walks through the full-site design evolution Bonsai built for Patches In A Day: the cinematic homepage, eight new service pages, 31 custom icons, every URL and sentence of ranking copy preserved, Lighthouse mobile performance from 70 to 97, and how AI agents did the build under 27 years of direction.

[ Challenge ]

What we
walked into.

Established family contractor with a 4.9-star, 450-review reputation and a generic template site that looked like every other drywall company in the county.

The homepage had just been rebuilt as a cinematic, scroll-driven 'studs to finished' experience. Every internal page still lived in the old design — two websites wearing one logo.

Any redesign had to be additive: no deleted pages, no changed URLs, no lost local SEO across Sonoma, Napa, Marin and San Francisco, and the live Google tags, forms and lead tracking had to keep working through cutover.

[ Strategy ]

The play.
Narrow on purpose.

The pillars we prioritized — and what we deferred. Every engagement starts with a decision about what not to do.
01

Preserve first, then elevate

Production was crawled and every page's copy, title, meta description, canonical and schema became the source of truth. A copy-parity gate checked that 100% of the ranking copy survived the redesign before anything shipped.

02

One design system, no generic template

The approved cinematic homepage set the palette (logo navy, marble, polished cement, one ice sheen), the type and the motion language. Each page type got its own composition: spec-sheet service pages, a sticky-rail services hub, audience pages that switch surface by audience, a geographic hub with an interactive map.

03

Real service pages for real queries

Eight dedicated service pages replaced fragment anchors, each with Sebastopol and Sonoma County in the title, a process rail, verified job photography, FAQ schema and county links. Legacy WordPress URLs were repointed to the new pages so old equity lands on a real document.

04

AI agents under senior direction

Bryan Fikes set the direction, the guardrails and the client's hard rules. AI agents did the build, wrote the audits, measured contrast against rendered pixels, crawled every link and ran accessibility and Lighthouse passes — then reported, not claimed, the results.

[ Implementation ]

What
we shipped.

The actual work — the pages, the campaigns, the technical scaffolding. Every item below is live.
01

  • → 22 pages: cinematic homepage, services hub (every original anchor kept), 8 service pages, 3 audience pages, service areas, about, work, FAQ, contact, legal
  • → 31-icon custom library on one 64-unit grid — each service icon animates the work it describes
  • → Redesigned footer as a final conversion section on every page: NAP, hours, licence, rating, services, audiences, five regions, social
  • → Branded 1200×630 social cards for every page, wired into Open Graph and Twitter tags
02

Local SEO and AI search

  • → Service-areas hub restored with every city and neighborhood, plus Napa County; county chips on every page
  • → LocalBusiness schema now lists every county and city served; Service, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList schema per page
  • → Answer-first ledes, what-we-fix checklists and on-page FAQ matched to schema on every service page
  • → Sitemap grew from 11 to 19 URLs; all legacy redirects preserved and repointed
03

Verification before launch

  • → 2,431 links and anchors checked, 0 broken; copy parity 100% on every production page
  • → Text over imagery measured against the rendered backdrop — 21 blocks, lowest 6.85:1
  • → axe-core clean on every internal page; Lighthouse mobile performance 68–71 before → 73 to 97 after; accessibility 100
  • → Google Tag Manager, GA4, the BonsaiX pixel, Netlify forms, reCAPTCHA and the lead event verified live after cutover
[ Outcomes ]
