One gardener.
Twenty-six years
in search.
Bryan Fikes has been building the Sonoma County search economy since flip phones were cool and SEO was half black magic.
Founder of Bonsai Marketing Company. Co-founder of Zenergy Works. North Bay Business Journal Forty Under 40. Tactical Dad LLC. CMO of Body Spartan. Today he runs a deliberately small studio in Santa Rosa — powered by an AI swarm that doesn't clock out.
The long version,
chapter by chapter.
Foundations
Born and raised in Sonoma County. Graduated Analy High School in Sebastopol, then earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from Black Hills State University (with a concurrent AA at Santa Rosa Junior College in '98). Came home to Sonoma County with a mass-comm degree and a head full of questions about this new thing called the web.
Before the internet was polite
Joined New Generation Media, LLC in Santa Rosa as a Digital Consultant — building websites for media companies when 'responsive design' wasn't a phrase. Concurrently co-owned Prenatal Peek / Baby Peek Media, a 3D/4D elective ultrasound franchise. Also ran ad sales at KZST/KJZY Radio (Amaturo Broadcasting). Three overlapping hats, one city, a lot of late nights.
Zenergy is born
Founded Zenergy Internet Marketing — a standalone SEO, SEM, and web design shop out of Santa Rosa. The 'Zenergy' brand that would carry for 12+ years starts here. Doubled revenue every year. Built what would become the playbook.
Zenergy Works + Google gold
Zenergy Internet Marketing merged with New Generation Media to form Zenergy Works. By 2011 the business had consolidated into full ownership. In December 2012, Tom Nelson (former CEO of Guy Fieri's company portfolio) joined as Director of Sales. Then 2013 — Zenergy Works won Google's 'Most Creative Tour' national award for the Splash Express Car Wash virtual tour, and became the first Northern California Google-authorized Business View agency.
The Press Democrat spread
Featured in two Santa Rosa Press Democrat articles (March 24 + 27, 2014). At that point: 29 employees, 1,200+ direct clients, 4,500+ through affiliates, and doubled revenue annually since '07. Announced regional office plans for SF, LA, Sacramento, Denver, Phoenix, Marin, and Napa. Also: acquired 707 Web Design. A big, loud year.
Tactical Dad + Forty Under 40
Co-founded Tactical Dad, LLC with Scott Bagala — the D.O.D.D. Pack for new fathers shipped via Kickstarter and was later featured on Stephen Colbert (Rob Riggle segment). Founded Zenergy Ventures as a business incubator. Launched Zenergy Labz (Shopify). April 2015: named to the North Bay Business Journal Forty Under 40 — selected from 120+ nominations. Eight days prior, Zenergy Works was announced as an Official Google City Partner.
Body Spartan CMO
Took on the Chief Marketing Officer role at Body Spartan — one of the fastest-growing supplement and apparel brands in the US — while continuing to run Zenergy Works. A hard two-year run at the absolute peak of pre-AI ecommerce performance marketing.
End of the Zenergy chapter
Zenergy Works briefly merged with a local design firm under the combined 'Zentiv' brand — a short-lived experiment. Both companies soon reverted to their original names and trajectories, and Bryan's operational role at Zenergy Works closed after a full decade. A ten-year chapter, wrapped up clean.
Bonsai Marketing Company founded
After a brief CMO engagement at Original HAPA in January '21, Bryan founded Bonsai Marketing Company in Santa Rosa. A deliberately small studio built on a zen-inspired, precision marketing philosophy. One client per vertical per market. No account manager chains. Just the gardener.
The Fikeshway Method
Launched a coaching program teaching entrepreneurs and agencies how to generate leads without paid advertising. The Fikeshway brand philosophy — 19 years of what-actually-works distilled into a replicable system.
AI-powered hyper-local
Quietly launched in the summer of 2025 with early agentic workflows and internal pilots — then officially debuted in January 2026 as a nationwide growth platform that started as a seed in Sonoma County. Built for local service businesses anywhere, powered by the 26 years of playbooks we earned here. Launched BonsaiX.ai (our own proof point). Built Voice Bonsai (AI receptionist SaaS). And deployed the agentic swarms that now handle what used to take a team of thirty.
Receipts,
not claims.
Twelve companies.
One through-line.
Zen-inspired,
precision marketing.
Bonsai Marketing Company is what happens when 26 years of local SEO, GBP, ads, and ecommerce experience meet an AI swarm that never sleeps. One client per vertical per market. One gardener. Zero account managers between you and the work.
"When you combine experience with AI, you don't replace strategy — you amplify it."Bryan Fikes · EIN Presswire · Feb 13, 2026
